Grant funding boost for major library revamp

Noosaville Library is set for a facelift thanks to an $805,000 grant from the State Government.

Library and Galleries Manager Kerri Contini welcomed the funding, which will be put towards the $1.7 million project.

The expansion and refurbishment project will retain the iconic architectural design but be updated to include:

  • The addition of 80m2 library building.
  • A complete internal refurbishment.
  • Publicly available programming, training and meeting rooms.
  • A technology Maker Space.
  • A children’s early literacy space.
  • An outdoor Wi-Fi and reading courtyard.
  • Heritage Library room.

New energy efficient lighting and air-conditioning to meet Council’s sustainability goals.

Ms Contini said Council was delighted to receive the funding, which will enable the project to proceed in 2018. Works are aimed to commence in March and finish in October 2018.

“The Noosaville Library is a vibrant part of Council’s popular library service, which includes the Cooroy Library, Mobile Library and a digital library. However, Noosaville Library is now 23 years old and was designed and built before the internet age,” she said.

“It is time for this important community asset to undergo an upgrade to meet contemporary community needs.”

Noosa Council will receive $805,954 toward the cost of the refurbishment under the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.
